Started with shorter 3 mile runs. Pushed into 4 without to much more effort. Due to the baby being due my runs have been.

Close to home around the Medlock vale (1 mile loop) which is mostly flat., though there is a nice hill between home and the vale. My training was put on hold when the baby came out of the sun roof on their 16th December

Since then I have been back and fourth to the hospital but hopefully they are coming home today and then the training can continue.

I’ve managed a few long hikes in the ice and snow to the hospital as I want going to risk the car but limited amount of running.

Training plan kicks in fully in Jan, until then I should be able to get a few runs in and push the distance up to ,6miles.

26 miles currently seems a long faraway target…

My wife thinks I’m mad. My son is rooting for me and my little girl won’t yet understand…

Note to self… Get some audio books lined up for the longer slow runs…

October!

I’ve not updated this blog for a while and I’ve had no races booked in so no real training to do!
As a consequence my running became just the odd ad-hoc thing I’ve fitted in-between work, jobs around the house, jobs in the back garden (Decking) and working on the allotment (That takes more time than you would expect)…

Well I’m 30 Next year! I said I wanted to do a Marathon before I was 30…
So I’ve signed up for the Manchester Marathon 2012 (April 29th 2012)!

I’ve done 3 short 3 mile runs so far, sorted out a training plan for January onwards (16 week plan) but am looking at working up to about half marathon distance before then.

Done:
Booked in for a Marathon (Check)
Started running regularly (Check) – 3 Miles every other day at the moment with plans to build it up
Training Plan (Check)

Needs to be done:
Website (In Progress) <- This is this site. I need to get some content on it, a link to my just giving page and some ways of people being able to prod me when I don’t update this… in other words feel free to comment, prod and kick me out the door especially in the colder winter months

Charity:
I figured if I was running 26.2 miles it would be worth trying to raise some money for a charity close to home. As my father has a heart condition the British Heart Foundation was an easy choice. Just Giving site is setup but will be adding a link onto here shortly

Finally I am going to try and keep this up to date while I’m progressing through my training and after finishing the run (hopes).

Ok…

So I’ve been a slacker over Xmas… I know…
Last year was ok until April where I pulled my hamstring, attempted to continue to run and made it much worse!

So after months of not running, building it up to 9ish miles and completing hell runner 2010!

It was Cold, Icy, Miserable, Damp and I let it all slide until Last Feb…

So after several months of not running, I got my Road bike finally fixed!!! Meaning I can start cycling more often to work and back! With the bus fares and fuel prices going up this should save me a few pounds, which I will inevitably then spend on repairing the bike tires due to all the wholes in the road that the council’s don’t have the money to fill… :S

Big Pot Hole

Anyway I digress,
So last week I managed one 6 mile run/walk which I was happy with… Though lack of sleep, odd shifts and my legs hurting for 3 days after I didn’t do any more… However I then managed to cycle into work and back (22 miles of peddle power)… Due to seat and pot holes (not much unlike the image above provided by Uncl3dad) my back side hurt like hell for a good few days

This week I decided first!

I NEEDED A GOAL to aim for… So considering I enjoyed the Trail Run in Rivington 2 years ago (Half Marathon), I decided aiming to get back up to 13 Mile distance before October would be a start! Keeping it up over winter would be the hard part and finally Aiming for a full Marathon early next year before I turn 30 (June 2012)!

So I now have a goal…

Then the PLAN! (Thanks again BrianMac)

So this week… I started!!!

Got up Monday went to work, came home, picked up Kid, Made Tea, All Ate Tea and then…. The Wife settled the Kid and I went for the first of many runs!

3 Miles down

Tuesday got up, went work, came home and picked up Kid, Made Tea… (Hay all’s going well)…
Kid not looking too good, noticed rash… Evening went to pot from there on… NHS Direct on the phone and a very sleepless night.
Wednesday (Today for the next 30 minutes), Went into work VERY VERY tired while other half took the kid to the docs… Worked, Came home… Little one has Scarlet Fever and Tonsillitis! (I didn’t even know you could still get Scarlet Fever, but it is very obvious… lovely red bubbly complexion that it gives).
When I finally got home and made Tea, put wife and child to bed came on computer! (Chill time)…
No runs… too Tired…

Tomorrow I’m looking after the little one, Wife’s back at work and again! Hopefully a short run and Friday hopefully I can get a cycle ride in and depending on lack of sleep on Saturday I may get a park run in (5km)… And maybe, just maybe I can get back on track!
DAMN! I thought on Monday I had got this started… I was determined to keep it going but what the heck! Kids will be kids and they seem to like to get ill at the most inconvenient of times, its there job isn’t it?
But I love him to bits or else I would have still gone for a run instead of looking after him!
So… now… all I’m thinking of is how to keep to this training plan, balance work, family and anything else that gets thrown at me while ignoring the fact that the plan’s not going to work around the lovely wacky shift patterns I work with!

On a side note… I am writing this so I can look back on it in 12 months time and laugh or cry depending on where I am… I’m not expecting anyone else to read this however, if you are reading these rambles, feel free to comment and watch this space to see how it unfolds…

Enjoy!

Hello World,

Well I didn’t get a place (again) in the London Marathon …
So I’m looking at doing another Marathon, just not decided exactly which one yet.

I did Hell runner two weeks ago (www.hellrunner.co.uk) which was good, shorter than the year before and as it was my second time I felt less prepared (due to injuries and lack of miles) but while doing the run I knew what to expect which kind of took the fun out of it.

Finding it hard with the dark nights, cold weather to get out and run as much as I would like to be running (3 time a week, minimum).

Managed to get out and do 6.5 miles today. I was planning and doing more but with my Garmin having no charge, fathering law coming around, getting my hair cut as I was starting to look like a lost shaggy dog I didn’t have too much time and by the time I god home it was getting dark and the streets were starting to be taken over by Zombies (by zombies I mean the groups of idiots that follow each other and find it funny to brake ice in the canal with bricks? not keen on running past youths holding bricks really)…

***Wish I could draw, but as I can’t… Here is a zombie I stole/borrowed from http://blog.kennysapps.com***

zombie-runner

Enjoyed the run, feeling good… Let’s see if I can keep this up over this cold period and get back up to regular 10 to 13 mile runs… If I can get back to doing this then it will be worth jumping in the deep end and signing up for that marathon… (The one I have in mind at present is a “Mountain Marathon” so not a road/flat one.

I don’t expect anyone to be reading this… I did originally create this for raising money for a charity if I did get a marathon place this year (London)… I’m going to start bogging my training, running, etc up here and if I do go through with a marathon maybe I can still use this for the purpose of collecting money for a charity?

Todays Run:
If you are reading this and you want to leave a comment, email, feedback, advice, prod me to do more runs or similar feel free.

Regards,
Mouse
